Sariska National Park

Sariska National Park, officially known as Sariska Tiger Reserve, is the world’s first tiger sanctuary to successfully relocate a tiger as part of a conservation program. Located just 200 km from Delhi and 107 km from Jaipur, it was declared a protected area in 1955 and upgraded to a national park in 1979 — making it one of Rajasthan’s most historic wildlife destinations.

About Sariska National Park

Sariska National Park offers a striking blend of landscapes: rugged mountains, open grasslands, dry deciduous forests, and dramatic cliffs spread across more than 800 square kilometers. Nestled within the Aravalli Hills in Alwar district, the park is home to a thriving population of tigers alongside a wide range of other wildlife. In addition to tigers, Sariska National Park showcases nature at its best, with sightings of jungle cats, rhesus monkeys, sambar and chital deer, and wild boar. You’ll also find a rich variety of birdlife, including grouse, spotted quail, and the crowned snake eagle.

Wildlife Safari at Sariska National Park

Going on a jeep safari at Sariska National Park is one of the best ways to spend a day among beautiful animals, especially tigers. Safaris also take you past Fort Kankwadi, a historic structure that can only be reached by jeep safari, adding a layer of heritage to your wildlife experience. If you’re planning a visit, a guided safari is the ideal way to explore everything Sariska National Park has to offer.

Birdwatching at Sariska National Park

Beyond big cats, Sariska National Park is a birdwatcher’s paradise, home to over 220 species, including migratory birds that travel from as far as Europe and Central Asia. Early morning and late afternoon safaris offer the best chances of spotting both resident and migratory species against the backdrop of the Aravalli landscape.

Why Visit Sariska National Park

Unlike some of India’s more crowded tiger reserves, Sariska National Park offers a slightly quieter, more relaxed safari experience while still delivering excellent wildlife sightings. Its proximity to Delhi and Jaipur makes it an ideal weekend destination for wildlife lovers, families, and photographers looking to combine adventure with convenience. If you travel with a group, you’ll find that a safari through Sariska National Park adds a whole different level of fun and excitement to your trip.

Best Time to Visit Sariska National Park

The park is open to visitors from October to June, with the coolest and most comfortable months being November through February. Sightings tend to improve as summer approaches (March to June), when animals gather more frequently around water sources. The park remains closed during the monsoon season, from July to September.

Getting to Sariska National Park

Sariska National Park is easily accessible by road from both Delhi (around 200 km) and Jaipur (around 107 km), making it a popular add-on to Rajasthan wildlife circuits that include Ranthambore or Jaipur city tours.
