This easy-to-follow guide will help you book your safari and prepare for an unforgettable wildlife experience in one of India’s most iconic national parks.

Located in Assam, Kaziranga is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and world-famous for its one-horned rhinoceros, vast floodplains, tall elephant grass, and rich biodiversity. Whether you are a wildlife lover, photographer, or nature explorer, Kaziranga promises an adventure like no other!

Best Time to Visit Kaziranga National Park

Kaziranga National Park is open from November to April, which is the best time to visit due to pleasant weather and excellent wildlife sightings.

  • November to February: Ideal weather, lush landscapes, perfect for photography
  • March to April: Higher chances of spotting rhinos, elephants, and wild buffalo near water bodies

Park Closure:
Kaziranga remains closed from May to October due to monsoon flooding and safety reasons.

Types of Safaris in Kaziranga National Park

Kaziranga offers multiple safari options, each providing a unique way to explore its wildlife-rich terrain.

The most popular and flexible safari option. Jeep safaris allow deeper exploration of different zones and better chances to spot rhinos, elephants, swamp deer, wild buffalo, and even tigers.

  • Capacity: 6 adults + 2 children
  • Available in all four zones

2. Canter Safari

Ideal for groups, the Canter safari is conducted in open-roof vehicles and mainly operates in the Central (Kohora) Range. It offers a longer safari duration and great views of grasslands and wetlands.

  • Capacity: 16–18 people
  • Best for budget travelers and groups

3. Elephant Safari

One of Kaziranga’s most unique experiences! Elephant safaris take place in the early morning, allowing close encounters with rhinos in tall grass areas.

  • Conducted mainly in Kohora & Bagori ranges
  • Subject to availability and forest department approval

Best Safari Zones in Kaziranga National Park

Kaziranga is divided into four major safari ranges, each offering a different wildlife experience:

  • Kohora (Central Range)

The most popular zone, known for high rhino density, birdlife, and scenic landscapes. Ideal for first-time visitors.

  • Bagori (Western Range)

Famous for elephant sightings, open grasslands, and frequent rhino encounters. Excellent for wildlife photography.

  • Agaratoli (Eastern Range)

A paradise for birdwatchers with wetlands, migratory birds, and peaceful surroundings.

  • Burapahar Range

A hilly and forested area, great for spotting primates, birds, and enjoying a quieter, less crowded safari.
