Mustafabad Zone

The Mustafabad Zone is an important entry point and safari area within Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, known for its open grasslands, shrublands and wetland patches that create a lively habitat for birds and smaller wildlife. Situated near the Chuka ecotourism campus, this zone provides a quieter, early-morning wildlife drive experience with natural Terai landscapes.

What Makes Mustafabad Special?

  • The zone features expansive grasslands and shrubland mosaics supporting both resident and migratory birds — particularly active during dawn and dusk.
  • Its proximity to the Chuka eco-tourism area and forest guest house makes it a convenient starting point for safaris and explorations deep into Pilibhit’s wilderness.
  • The open landscapes combined with patches of wetland and tall grasses offer a scenic contrast to dense forests, giving visitors a diverse visual experience on safari drives.

Wildlife Highlights:

  • Birdlife: Mustafabad’s grasslands and wetland margins attract many small and ground-nesting birds like Red Avadavat, Indian Bush Lark, and migrant species such as Bluethroat and Siberian Stonechat in winter.
  • Mammals: While larger predators like tigers and leopards roam across the reserve, Mustafabad’s open terrain makes sightings of deer species (such as hog deer and spotted deer) and other herbivores more frequent during safaris.
  • Scenic Trails: The mix of grasslands with occasional water points creates good opportunities for photographers and nature lovers to observe wildlife against a tranquil backdrop.

Best Time to Visit:

  • Morning Safaris: Early morning drives (sunrise to about 10:00 AM) provide calmer conditions and higher chance of wildlife activity, especially bird movement and deer grazing.
  • Winter Season (Nov–Mar): Cooler months enhance visibility and attract more migrant birds, making safaris especially rewarding in Mustafabad.
